Walking or Cycling in the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is an official area of natural beauty (AONB) second only to the Lake District in size. The Cotswold landscape has been unspoilt over the past 300 years. The Cotswold area is named for the limestone Cotswold Hills that run for 50 miles or more northeast of Bath. There are over 3000 miles of public footpaths in the Cotswolds area of outstanding beauty, walking and cycling are great ways to appreciate and enjoy the distinctive character of the Cotswolds.
Historically this area was used for raising sheep and was made famous in the middle ages for the wool trade. Most towns have a ‘Wool Church’ a large church from the 1500s built by rich wool merchants of that time.
Explore the picturesque Cotswold villages with their golden stone buildings dating back to the 16th/17th century, stately house and gardens, the open lush country side with its clear flowing rivers discover the woodland, the ancient track and the long winding footpaths. There are many walks to choose from including the Cotswold Way this runs for 103 mile from Bath to Chipping Campden one of the great long distance trails in Britain.
